Unica Platform and Campaign system database migration using Campaign flowchart execution
There is a situation where enterprise decides to move away from one database vendor and adopt another database vendor as their preferred choice for applications they are using enterprise-wide. We came across one such situation where one customer in North America decided to move away from IBM DB2 and adopt MS SQL server as their preferred choice for all enterprise applications across their organization; they can then use the procedure mentioned in this blog which involves a system database migration using Campaign flowcharts. The Goal Migrated Unica Platform/Campaign system database from one DB type to another using Campaign flowchart execution from the source environment. (Here, the goal is to migrate the Unica Campaign system DB IBM DB2 to MS SQL Server) Challenge The customer did not have the financial budget to purchase a license for database migration tools available in the market. Solution Module We have used our DB migration methodology for Unica Platform and Campaign modules. But the same method can be used for the rest of the Unica suite. Platform module is used for creating and storing the security policies required for the Unica application. The Platform module stores the configuration settings of different Unica modules/applications in the suite. Unica Campaign is the advanced campaign management solution that delivers customer targeting at scale with powerful segmentation capabilities for outbound, multi-channel, multi-wave batch campaign execution and tracking. Key Feature The key feature of this methodology is to showcase how Campaign flowchart execution can be used to migrate Unica Platform and Campaign system tables from the existing IBM DB 2 database to the MS SQL server database. Privacy Matters: Unica is GDPR Compliant
What is GDPR? The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the toughest privacy and security law in the world. Though it was drafted and passed by the European Union (EU), it imposes obligations onto organizations anywhere, so long as they target or collect data related to people in the EU. Why should we be concerned? As marketing management software, Unica, would involve personal data during two main activities: Data gathering and profiling and Targeting. Information related to customer interaction is collected to analyze the market and create unique customer profiles. Naturally, the more personal data is used in conducting marketing activities, the more challenging it becomes for organizations to ensure compliance. There are tough penalties for those companies and organizations who don’t comply with GDPR- there could be fines of up to 4% of annual global revenue or 20 million Euros, whichever is greater. It is of utmost importance that you are GDPR compliant. What will be covered? The HCL Unica rely heavily on our customers’ owned Databases. HCL provides a utility that allows our HCL Unica customers to generate SQL scripts for deleting customer's personal data from the software's System Table Database.  These scripts will be available for: Platform, Campaign, Interact, Opportunity Detect, Plan, Deliver, and to a lesser extent, Optimize solutions. How? HCL is making several changes to HCL Unica to assist organizations with the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). All the products provide a utility that generates SQL scripts that will, once run on the HCL Unica solutions’ System Tables Database, purge the system tables of personal data for your customers who have requested for their personal data to be deleted. Unica’s Cloud Native Journey
With the release of Unica v12.1 this past summer, we introduced Unica as “an integrated, cloud native platform that powers precision marketing at scale.” That is a really bold statement! I’ve been a proud member of the Unica Professional Services Team (first at Unica, then IBM, and now HCL) for the past 20+ years, and in this blog post, I would like to share with you Unica’s Cloud Native Journey. I want to share Unica’s Cloud Native Journey for two reasons: 1) it has been a journey, and we are not yet finished with this journey, and 2) no doubt your organization is on its own journey to the cloud and if you are like most folks we talk with this journey is not often a straight line, but more of a zig-zag, with some stops along the way! So reading about Unica’s Cloud Native Journey may help you better appreciate your organization’s journey. Before I share the details of our journey, you may be wondering, how can we make the claim that Unica is cloud native? Did you know of an organization named the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), founded in 2015 as a project of the Linux Foundation? Its purpose is to advance container technology and to align the tech industry around its evolution. The CNCF distinguishes between cloud applications – software enabled by a browser connected to a cloud-based infrastructure vs. cloud native applications – software that is containerized and supports dynamic orchestration. Unica Campaign – Integration with Unica Journey
The first step before making any marketing campaign effective is having the right data of the audience. It ensures that you target the right offers, information, or even promotional content based on their behavior of how they have interacted with your product. Starting from HCL Unica V12.1, Unica Suite got two new products. Those are HCL Unica Journey and HCL Unica Link. Unica Journey is a goal-based orchestration solution to craft, execute, and visualize context-driven, personalized, multi-step omnichannel customer experiences. Unica Link provides both design-time and runtime services. It is invoked at design time when an administrator configures a Link connection or when you configure a process box in the Unica Campaign application or a touchpoint in the Unica Journey application. Campaign flowchart has capabilities to perform the segmentation. Using the Journey process box Campaign, send the audience's information to Unica Journey. The campaign sends the audience information on the designated Kafka topic (STREAMING_IMPORT). Unica Journey read this audience information from the Kafka topic (STREAMING_IMPORT) and identifies it with entry sources. This audience information is further published to all Journeys, which are taking input from the mentioned entry source. To make this happen, a new process box, ‘Journey,’ has been introduced. Journey Process box in detail Journey process box enables the marketers to streamline the data flow between the Campaign and Journey application. Following are the details about the Journey Process box: Journey process box allows the Campaign users to select the audience data to be sent to Journey (input cells). It allows the marketers to select the existing data definition which has been defined in Unica Journey.
